The mission of CEDLA is to produce, facilitate and disseminate knowledge on Latin America that furthers a broader understanding of contemporary developments in the region. With its multi-disciplinary team of researchers CEDLA provides a broad social science approach to Latin American studies.
CEDLA’s mission encompasses five main goals:
- To produce useful, important and relevant knowledge on Latin America by carrying out social science research on important new developments and their background;
- To collect a wide array of material relevant to the study and documentation of Latin America within the broad field of the social sciences;
- To disseminate knowledge on Latin America among scholars, students, governmental and non-governmental agencies, both nationally and internationally;
- To provide and support academic teaching of Latin America studies from a multi-disciplinary perspective;
- To coordinate and advance research and research debates and to function as a lively centre for discussion on Latin America in the Netherlands and Europe
CEDLA has collected a wide array of material relevant to the study and documentation of Latin America within the broad field of the social sciences, and aims to be a lively centre for discussion on Latin America, in Europe and in the rest of the world. One of the other goals of CEDLA is to disseminate knowledge on Latin America among scholars, students, governmental and non-governmental agencies, both nationally and internationally. Rightly because of the focus of Europlata on the social sciences and on international cooperation, CEDLA will be the ideal point of encounter for enhancing the contacts between students, teachers and researchers from Latin America and from Europe.
